It's disassembly time.
You'll need small torx drivers (torx-8, IIRC). There are two torx screws hidden behind the rubber nubbins below the lower edge of the lid assembly. Dig out the nubbins (save them), undo the screws, then carefully separate the lid halves. You'll be able to see the ribbon cable in question. Inspect for tears, especially where it goes through the hinge. If you're lucky, you won't see any. Next, simply pull out, then re-insert the cable at the display end.
If still no joy, you've got more work to do. Post back, and someone will suggest some next steps.
