Favorite Video Game
What is your favorite video game (Any console/platform/OS) and why? Personally, I REALLY like the Half Life series. I just started playing the Half life 2 games (Half life2 and Half life 2: Episode One) this summer and it is the only first person shooter I actually enjoy. I'm asking for the Orange Box for PC this Christmas, if I don't get it, I'm spending the $68 I need to get it. I also have the original Half life on this computer right now, its taking a while to beat because it gets mighty intense and I have to stop because I start making mistakes. It took about 2 (full) days to beat Half Life 2 (on all day) and only a few hours to beat Episode One. Its such a good mix between science fiction, emotions, horror, and a little bit of teamwork thrown in. For me its like I'm almost in the game and I forget that I'm in my room sitting in a chair in front of a monitor. I recommend this game to almost everybody.
Zork. After all, why settle for 3-D graphics when you have a 5-D imagination.
Nothing beats Super Mario World [

Burning Monkey Solitaire.
MVP Baseball 2005 for GameCube, any Madden game, and really sports games in general are my favorites. Was there ever a good baseball game for Macintosh?
You also can't beat Super Mario Bros 3, the sole reason I keep my NES around. Is it available on Wii virtual console so I can finally chuck that unreliable old NES and that huge game cartridge?
Outside of sports and Mario games, I'm not really that good at them or into them...on the Mac I once tried the demo version of Prince of Persia and couldn't even figure out the controls! I like the Cliff Johnson games, Battle Chess, and Lemmings on the computer, though I only have Lemmings for DOS (not Mac).

Oh I forgot to put lemmings on my post! I just had to sum up my love for half life into a decent size and I forgot to put lemmings! I should get some more NES games for my Wii.

Not to be too big a tool, but shouldn't this thread be in the lounge?
Mmm, Quake 1...
Deathmatches are the most fast paced and best of ANY FPS of any time period.
Team Fortress 1 is awesome.

Call of Duty 2. It's the first game that got me interested in WWII combat shooters.
Defender
For 68k machines:
Maxis stuff (SimCity, etc).
Oregon Trail
Why: SimCity is a fun way to waste MAJOR amounts of time. Oregon Trail makes me laugh (you have died of dysentery... hahaha)
For older Power Macs:
Duke Nukem 3D
Warcraft
Descent
Why: Duke Nukem is fun, Warcraft is cool, and Descent is pretty cool, flying around blowing up corrupted alien robots deep within mines inside of asteroids.
For newer Power Macs:
StarCraft
Diablo II
Why: StarCraft roxxors, and Diablo II is pretty cool. The armies of Hell don't stand a chance against me. I'm usually either the Necromancer or the Druid. I love my pets.
For peecees:
Half-Life and its derivatives (these games are the only reason I run Windows, actually)
Why: I AM Gordon Freeman. That game is probably one of the best ever made in the history of the universe. The story is fantastic, and the characters are well-developed and integral to the story. Some of it may not be terribly realistic (how can Alyx take that much damage wearing a tank top and jeans?), but it's still frickin' sweet.
For consoles:
Need for Speed (II and III are the best, IMO)
Resident Evil
Twisted Metal
Why: NFS is probably the only way I'll ever get my hands on a McLaren F1, and it's fun to run over road signs and drive the cops or other players into median rails and stuff. Resident Evil also has a good story, good enough to be made into a series of slightly campy movies. Twisted Metal combines driving and blowing stuff up, which is awesome.

Franklinstein, I find it interesting that Oregon Trail makes you laugh. It was certaintly NOT a laughing matter when a thief made off with ALL BUT ONE of my oxen!
It's not really hysterical when my damn wagon capsizes when attempting to ford a river and everything floats off, either. But the deaths would often elicit a chuckle, as dark as that sounds. It's probably the direct, matter-of-fact way it's presented, it's just like, BAM! You dead. Cholera. And a snake bite. Game over. Try again.
I'd say the Paul Woakes masterwork "Damocles".

FFVII.
I recently played it again after a few years when I realized I could play the PSX disc on my Mac with PCSX.
It looks way prettier on a good-quality CRT.

Transport Tycoon. All the way!! It's a bit hard to find, but it is the original Tycoon game (Done by Chris Sawyer) and is a truly awesome game to play
One of my favorite bugs (That's not a bug, that's a feature!!!) is that in the original game, if you built a tunnel from one end of the world to the other, you would get like $6billion
. They fixed it with the deluxe edition. But go ahead and give it a shot. it's also for mac too!!!
There is Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe

For me:
Master of Orion I
Master of Orion II
Deus Ex
Big Bang Backgammon
EV: Nova
Star Wars Galaxies
I don't game much, maybe 3 hours a week. Usually far less than that.
MOO1 was released when I was in Junior High and I still play it. Glad there was an OS 9 port.
MOO2 had an OS 9 port, but it sucked.
Deus Ex - As a conspiracy theorists, this game just rocks.
Big Bang Backgammon - Backgammon is highly addictive, and the graphics are great!
EV: Nova - I love games like this. EV Nova is very customizable. I will play this game forever.
SWG - Cool, I get to be in the Star Wars universe. Excellent graphics, good game play. Awesome music. All in all a great game.
Sad note: I have no PC capable of playing Deus Ex, MOO2 or SWG. I don't own a PC. So until I get a MBP or MP tower, no x86 games for me.
Which is fine, my OS X games are fine, and I get more enjoyment from programming than gaming.
Stay young Kids!
