Cache schemes require memory capacity to store the cached contents (the size of the cache) but also some memory to keep track of which larger memory contents are currently in the cache. This 'directory' of the cache is called the tag RAM or cache tag.

Elfen's "extra chips" are not additional cache capacity. They are the tag RAM chips.
