Didn't the System Saver pull air from the Mac? Also, correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the left-most switch(gets pushed in/out, can't remember the exact name of the type) control the power going to the Mac(you leave it's power switch on) while the rightmost switch on the System Saver controlled power to the two extra 3 pin(north american system savers) electrical sockets?
