Security Lock
This isn't really a peripheral... Many compact Macs came standard with a lock roughly dead-center on the back of the case. The icon next to the slot is of two links in a chain.
This is a really bizarre starting point for me since I have tried to research this... Is there a term of art other than security lock?
Follow-ups: 1) What precisely are they? Are they solely like a tab to hook a lock onto, or do they actually lock the computer?
2) How are they removed? Do they require specialized tools?
I realize this is not the most helpful start. I will send a picture when possible if this isn't clear enough.

Security lock or tab is probably the best term. Apple made then as well as others. They snap in but to remove them, you have to remove the entire back shell with a compact. They do not actually lock the computer. Its only a physical lock to secure to the desk. Even the keyboards on the 128/512/Plus had a spot to install the lock.

isnt this considered a kensington lock?
Kensington lock is different, that's patented, which is why they're all the same shape.

Wait, White Falcon that's the lock, right? That's not a key to remove it...?
Nope, that's the actual lock you'll put into the plastic. You can find them on eBay, usually pretty inexpensively.
You snap this thingie into the slot on the back of your machine (and/or keyboard), and then run a cable through it to secure the machine.
