[very edited post]

i am a little stuck in getting my powerbook online (wired...) which imo is necessary before i try to go wireless with it.

I am not experienced at all with macintosh networking, and after i upgraded to 7.5.3 and looked at the mactcp control panel, i got lost. i put in the name server, but im not sure the domain name was correct, and it wouldnt let me leave it blank. also, it swears by class ip's (obsolete!) so in order to use the correct address (78.*.*.*) i have to use class A, which makes my subnet mask incorrect...

can anyone help ease the pain in this task?

[re-edit] also, i have a sneaking suspicion that the asante micro is only for connecting to other appletalk resources.... anyone have any info on that?

[edit again] i have played around with it a little more, and it seems i need open transport for dhcp. i now think that it may be easier to do manual ip config between my mac and my wireless bridge, and have my bridge handle dhcp and such.

however, i tried to install open transport, and it says i need 5 MB of RAM. I have 4 MB installed, and RAM Doubler installed, but i didnt actually *install* ram doubler, so i figured maybe thats why it didnt recognize 8 MB. in any case, i turned on virtual memory, and it still didnt want to install. is there any way to trick the installer or smth to get it installed?
