Macintosh SE Fan Upgrade Hardware 7 posts Feb 7, 2015 — Feb 18, 2015
So I have two Macintosh SEs, one I keep in its original condition (20MB hard drive loud fan etc)  The other one is my play Mac which I upgraded with more RAM, Hard Drive etc.  My most recent addition is an ultra quiet fan.

Now I went for a 40mm fan because this particular SE does not have allot of room inside (it had the vertical hamster wheel fan).  So far my tests have shown it to be sufficient.  I open it up after some use and check the temperature of various components etc.

However I can probably fit in a 60mm fan inside if I want to.  My question is, has anyone else done this to a SE, and what was your experience.

do you have a pic of the hamster cage fan?

Here a picture of the old fan.

that's actually kind of cool, thanks for the pic...

The squirrel fans are indeed noisy and why Apple changed to box fans.

I had a normal box fan, But I did change it out for an 80mm fan.

Still have it configured this way, and it still sounds great. Can't hear it at all. Before it was louder than the Zip drive.

I was not happy with the 40mm fan. Upgraded it to 50mm, it seems much cooler now.
