I have always left the hard power rocker on back in the days before soft-power only Mac's, going with the idea that keeping major components (caps, transformers etc) energised is probably going to be a little better for their longevity on a long term basis than repeatedly shocking them so to speak with power up and power down cycles. I may be a little off the mark, but it seems the better option to me.
