Thank you for purchasing the EDUCORP 8.0 Shareware CD-ROM. This is a two CD-ROM set containing over 1 Gigabyte of public domain and shareware software! The first disk contains all of the System 7.x compatible software

along with a HyperCard browser that will help you locate files, preview clip art, listen to sounds and more. The second disk contains the archived files of older software, demos, Best of Sets, and software that did not work properly under System 7.

Damn, I just realized you can't download them unless you upgrade your account.

The file you're attempting to access from a free MediaMax account exceeds the single-file limit of 10MB.

What he said. I recommend switching to a different service, preferably one that doesn't remove files after a certain amount of time. And why .dmg files? Maybe you could have a format my Mac OS 9 powered G4 could use?
It's really annoying that all the Mac shareware single-archive collections other than Jag's Houses' own pub.zip are undownloadable after just a few hours. > :(

make Torrent files to distribute them... fast & free

I have contacted tachyon about hosting them on my server. he should be uploading them to my private FTP Server at home, then I will upload them to my forum which a link will be posted and they will remain there.

Any word from him yet? I've been dying for a bigger collection of sys. 6 shareware than the one on Jag's House (although that one is very impressive).
I am uploading now. I have about 2 hours till totally uploaded. He will give you a link and you will be able to download [:D] ]'>

Anyways, I am going to be going to the zoo, so I told him it will take about 2 hours (I think I did) or a bit more. But he will let you know.

one of them will be 226.2MB, the other will be 277MB. if he gives the download, and it's not that size, it's not done yet. Anyways, have fun!

Can you have these in .zip format? I'm an OS 9 user, so that's the only format I can use.
I am converting them to .sit right now. I had to pull out my lombard to do it, so it might take a while. I am extracting them from the images under OS X and then am going to boot to OS 9 to "stuff" them :p

I will get them up A.S.A.P. and am actively working on it.

Wha?

You can download stuffit for the classic OS you know.

How about a .sea version? Then nobody needs any special software to decompress it.

whoa whoa. Don't throw me around in different formats. I need a format that can be served from a windows-based server, and you guys can't run me around on formats. I don't know if I Can do SEA, but I will try

the last thing I can do is an image

which was what I was thinking of. does .img work for downloads?

OK, for those of you with access to OS X as well, download them from
http://www.troubleshootnow.com/coius/educorp1.dmg

http://www.troubleshootnow.com/coius/educorp2.dmg

Thanks coius, for your efforts.

:)
Uh... I kind of took those down. I will be uploading SEA so please edit those out. For those concerned, the total file size of both SEA archives, it will be a total of around 360 some Megabytes. I had some issues taking it from .dmg and putting them to .sea so I apologize. They should be up in the next hour :-)

first one is up:

EduCorp1.sit

(195.5MB)

EDIT: Second one is up:

EduCorp2.sit

EDIT: Changed the file extension to ".sit" Should work now. If it doesn't download, do a right-click and "save-as" or "Save to location"

EDIT2: sorry, was alerted the files didn't work. you can now click the links above and get them

I know, that was just the first format that came to mind. :p
Second one is up. See my last post.

Although this isn't my preferred method, I would still like to know how to do this. Is there a Mac-centric tutorial somewhere that you know of? Please refrain from using the term "google it" in your answer. [:)] ]'>

If you have the Bittorrent client, I believe it has a button that says "Make a Torrent" or something like that. You probably just select the file.

Second one is up. See my last post.
Uh, could you change them to .sit files? I just remembered that .sea files didn't work if you copied them from a non-OS 9 machine, and I'm downloading them from my OS X powered iBook, my sole internet machine. Sorry... :I
My attempted failed using Safari 3.1. It just showed garbled text and then said Not enough memory. There is 27 gigs free, a sit or dmg file would be better.

Did you try Crtl-click and save as?
uh... could you guys make up your mind? I can't keep doing this. Pick a format and stick with it.

What would cause a .sea format to not work if copied from a non-os 9 machine. If you guys have OS X, it should be fine.

I downloaded the Educorp .sea files fine with Tiger and Netscape 9. They wouldn't self-extract, but when I dropped them on Stuffit Expander 10.0, that opened them.

Just like digging around and finding a bunch of really old floppies, except without the floppies.

Tried Opera and had no problems downloading the files.

I have to agree with you. I don't understand why all these people with all these computers are having such a huge issue with 2 files.

I only recommended using .sea because I thought it would be easier for everyone to have the decompressor built into the file even though it does make the file slightly bigger because the file can be used by anyone even if they don't have the tool that was used to compress the file. I wasn't aware there were compatibility issues with .sea.

does it extract at all?? If it doesn't, i will have to do it again, but if I have to go to another format like .sit, i will stick with it. Beggers can't be choosers ;) I am not going to put every file format :p

It actually DOES extract! I changed the filetype and creator to Sit and it works perfectly.

iCab downloaded it as a text file. Anyway, like I said, I got it to work when I changed the format to .sit
Ok, i pre-changed the file extension to ".sit" It should work now :-)

Hi Guys,

I downloaded these at the time, but have only just started to try and play with them. Anyone got any advice on how to get into the .sit archives for someone who only has an XP PC and an LC475?

I've tried stuffit expander on the PC which failed, and stuffit expander 4.0.2 on my 475 (the latest I have) - neither like the archives.

Then I found a friend with a modern Mac who was able to extract the files from the .sits and put them back into .zip, but on windows WinZIP doesnt like the archives cause its full of characters that are illegal for windows. On my 475 I've tried MacZip and Unzip, but both puke on the files (may be because they are so large).

I'm guessing my best bet is the friend with the modern mac, but does anyone know of a way to restuff these things on a modern mac in a format that my old stuffit on the 475 will like?

Cheers,

Have you tried later versions of Stuffit Expander?
I recommend running some version of expander 5. It seems to unstuff many more of those older archives than does version 4.x. That's the very first thing I'd try. All those other options look harder.

Hey Coius.

Just saw this thread and tried to download those files today.... Did you take them down? Your links just go to some index page on your website.

I get a message saying that they are being moved.

Guys,

First, after a bit more hunting I was able to find Stuffit Expander 5.5 and that runs happily on my 475 and recognizes the SIT archives :) So now my 475 is busily unstuffing the first CD (looks like its going to take a while! Especially as I'm doing it across the LAN - lucky I have a linintosh server ;) ).

Second, I have created torrents of the two original SIT files for those of you that missed them the first time. I have limited upload bandwidth and am on a data cap, so would appreciate it if you could also seed these once you have them (depending on how many people there are that dont have them already I guess).

CD1 - http://www.mininova.org/tor/1415777

CD2 - http://www.mininova.org/tor/1415780

Torrents are good for this sort of stuff, and if we all keep seeding them as much as we are able, then if in the future someone comes across this thread and wants the software, it will be available (yay for the community).

Cheers,

SEA (self extracting archives) , I am pretty sure, have two file forks and all non mac OSses destroy the shorter file fork. In your case the resource fork. This destroys password protected stuffit files also. Stuffit put the password in a second file (a resource fork file) that windows will strip off. Yes... stuffit was written by retarded people.

As for DMG on OS9, a R-W capable, non compressed, non-encrypted DMG not containing multiple partitions or any partition table info, containing a HFS volume or HFS+ volume, CAN be mounted in OS9 if the mounting tool skips the preamble section. I think this section ends on a 512 byte boundary to allow read-writes to be on proper 512 byte block boundaries.

No one outside Apple ever wrote a tool to do so, but I think someone might have.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Disk_Image

Currently, the only way to open a DMG in Mac OS 9 is to use the developer version of Apple's Disk Copy (version 6.4), or a beta version of the unreleased 6.5 Apple's Disk Copy

If you cannot locate this, I can write you a tool. I have written private OS9 tools that mount a lot of different types of highly fragmented files. (Many mounting tools cannot mount files with more than 3 file fragment spans)

Indeed they do - I've wrecked a few SEA files by transferring them to PCs at one stage or another - they're a full-fledged Mac "application", and have both a resource fork and data fork.

just in case you don't know:

you can treat a .sea as a .sit (stuffit compressed file).

on pc, simply renaming it to .sit will help.

3.5 year bump FOR THE WIN!

I sent tachyon a PM about this upload material but he's never responded to it (shows May '11 his last visit) back in April of '11.

Anybody got this stuff? What's in it anyways? The early days were the different days.

Well unfortunately, coius server is now on the malware blacklist so i cant get it from there. lol.

I lost the name after shutting down my forum and then someone did a take over of the URL. I was unable to get it back, but somehow a transfer of the URL was basically stolen from me and I didn't know it.

btw, there has been recent incidents where people from countries are initiating un-authorized take-overs of URLs and nothing can be done. Godaddy at the time told me that when it happened, they couldn't stop it. Within a week I lost it and contacted godaddy since they were still charging me for the domain name. I then called visa and reported that godaddy was illegally charging my credit card. Go daddy contacted me telling me they weren't happy how i Reported to visa and demanded I pay up for lost money.

I basically told godaddy to go to hell since they didn't stop the domain transfer. After that I gave up.

I no longer have those files as when the domain went down, my files were instantly deleted by godaddy.

Godaddy can roll in the grave for all I care. After all that, now they have been backing the SOPA/PIPA act and a lot of people left.

I also was having service outages. On top of that, I have been getting spam from someone registering another URL similar to mine and telling me if I wanted it, I would have to pay (I kid you not) $90,000

Google will not filter the spam no matter how many times I mark it in gmail. I can't keep the emails from people registering the name from coming to me wanting me to bid on it. Frankly, I don't care as I never registered it for a purpose. Too much $$/yr

My favorite is my personal domain. I originally registered it through the "Yahoo Personal Address" service, and the email was hosted through Yahoo. Later, they retired the "Personal Address" service, and changed to two separate services - one for businesses, one for personal use. My account got grandfathered in badly - I was apparently in neither the new small business nor the new personal service. I later attempted to change something about the domain registration (I wanted to host a website that wasn't on GeoCities,) and nobody could help me. The small business side theoretically would have allowed me to, but they swore I was a personal account. The personal account side said they had no record of me. After much back-and-forth, I registered a different domain, and figured I'd just transfer the Yahoo domain. Nope, couldn't transfer the Yahoo domain because I couldn't get the transfer key. I figured I'd wait for it to expire and snap it up.

Nope, a squatter got it before me.

The domain was my last name dot org. (The dot com was held by a distant cousin, who ironically later lost THAT to a squatter himself.) My last name is not common (in the entire world, there are maybe three-four dozen of us.) It is not famous. It is not "trendy" or "interesting" in any way. There is no comprehensible reason for a domain squatter to want it.

When I followed the "make an offer on this domain" nonsense, I was forced to enter a minimum offer of €200. Fine, whatever. I entered my €200 offer. It was rejected, with a counter-offer of €10,000 (obviously automated.) BS. The automated system wouldn't let me "counter-counter" offer for less than €1000. Not going to do that (they claim it would be a binding offer.) I have a recurring alarm set every year for its supposed expiration. They have never let go of it, for over 7 years now. Every year, I check to see if it's the same squatter. It still is. I've attempted to find a way to contact a live human at the squatter to let them know that they've wasted their domain registration money every year - and that I'd offer them double what they've spent on registering it every year - but I've never been able to find a way to contact a live human.

And, now that I've thought about it, I decided to check again (the expiration has always been June) and the dot com my distant cousin lost is still held by the squatter, but apparently that same cousin managed to get the dot org! (Hrm, did I forget to check last year? Now that I think about it, I may have...)

If coius has the files still, there's MegaUpload/RS/FS/etc servers that'll gladly host it...

I'm mainly curious what's in it -- the title says 1GB, so that must contain some good stuff. (And bad -- trojans + viruses roamed the Mac world back then)

I only have a 1.0Mbps connection here, so I thought I'd ask before I downloaded.

Those two files total roughly 300MB, the 1GB figure is uncompressed?

If so, that's quite tidy compression...

I don't know. You'll have to download them and take a look.

I did so once, but it was over a year ago. I do recall that there was quite a lot of software and clip art.
