I've searched the forum, but have been unable to find a thread on modding the logic board of a Quadra 605. I'm not really a vintage Mac guy (yet I suppose!)
I got a Quadra 605 (and a 660AV and a Powermac 4400) off of Freecycle the other day. I've already stuck in a full '040, 128 MB SIMM and a 2 GB HDD in the 605. It has 7.5.3 which seems pretty snappy.
Anyway to make a long question short, has anyone ever replaced the soldered on 4MB onboard memory on the Quadra's logic board with higher capacity ICs?
I'm not terribly concerned about the physical mod since I am fairly adept with surface mount soldering both by profession and hobby.
I'm pretty sure that I can desolder the ICs on a 32 MB non-parity FPM SIMM and use them to replace the components on the board. Unfortunately it looks to me like all 64 and 128 MB memory ICs on the SIMMs are a different form factor, precluding their use on the board.
I'm more curious about whether the OS and whatever the Mac's BIOS analogue is will accept more than 132 MB of RAM and I really don't want to run the risk of ruining a good machine if there is a hardware limitation
Anybody have some knowledge for me?
