A guy wants $2500 for a IIfx on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220224326132&fromMakeTrack=true
And he states that if it isn't sold for $2500 he is going to actually raise the price!

Dang, and I thought the price I ended up paying for 128MB of RAM for my IIfx was pretty high.
HEH... HE IS REALLY FUNNY. I THINK IM GOING TO WAIT. 2500 SEEMS A BIT CHEAP FOR A IIFX. I DONT WANT TO BE UNFAIR GETTING IT FOR A PRICE LIKE THAT.
But it has optional features not offered with the $50 computer.
Hee-hee-hee... the question on there is priceless...
Q: Do you realize IIfx's sell on eBay all the time for maybe $50 tops?
A: THANK YOU FOR THE REMINDER-THIS ONE IS NOT $50 COMPUTER-IT IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND HAS OPTIONAL FEATURES NOT OFFERED WITH THE $50 COMPUTER
Because everybody knows that people take you more seriously on the internets if you type in ALL CAPS.

Insanity.
Wonder if it's already been reported to eBay. Either way, maybe the seller will put two and two together and realize that they're quite stupid. Although that might even be a stretch as well. :-/
i just sold my IIFX for $75Hee-hee-hee... the question on there is priceless...

Keeping both of my IIfx's, and never paid anywhere near $75 for either let alone $2000+
IT HAS FOUR INTERFACE CARDS SEE PICTURE
Err. One of them does look like a Nubus display card with a standard VGA output. Shirley that's worth a little..

Without knowing specifically what the cards are, I'm not willing to risk $2500. Even if they are 4 of the rarest Nubus cards in existence I don't think I'd be ready to put down $2500 on it.IT HAS FOUR INTERFACE CARDS SEE PICTURE

After all, at $2500, it is only 1/4 the price when brand new! That's a 75% savings!!!!!
There are no Nubus cards worth more then a few hundred each tops if that even on ebay.
Lunatics convinced that their old machine is priceless are a dime a dozen on Ebay.
I once saw a fellow trying to sell an IBM model 5170 for $2000. Those are 6 mhz 286 AT machines. Granted the machine cost 6K new, but that was surely before he had apparently left it out in the rain and dragged it through the parking lot with his car. It was ROUGH. I bought one that weekend for $10 at a thrift shop that hadn't been used since 1988 according to the hard drive.
I'll be darned if someone didn't buy it though and not a person with a zero behind their name. I wonder if this is a good way to launder money...

It sure is. You open up two Paypal and Ebay accounts. One registered to your home country and one to the country you want to smuggle money to. Have an accomplice in the other country set up a bogus buy it now auction for some piece of crap at a ridiculous price that you know nobody will ever pay then you buy it and pay for it through Paypal and be sure you set up autosweep on the account you are paying into so the money gets sent to the bank account of your choice at the end of each business day then your contact in the other country goes to a cash machine and withdraws the money and it vanishes. As long as you can keep up the illusion of being a legit seller/buyer the plan can't fail. you may have to make a few sales to some real customers, though, to reduce suspicion. An ebay seller moving thousands of items a month to only one customer is going to look very suspicious.

Is it? You will never know untill you try to sell it.My IIfx is worth that much ;-) :http://www.vintagemacworld.com/iifx.html
Re-read his link. It was owned by author Douglas Adams. Of course, he doesn't have any ultra-rare files on it, and I'm sure he has reformatted it so that it no longer has any trace of Adams-ness on it any more, but he does have confirmation from Adams' widow that it was, indeed, their computer. (Although part of the reason for so little Adams-work was that the computer was primarily used by Adams' wife, a lawyer.)Is it? If it had actually been Adams' primary writing computer, and contained his drafts, it would be easily worth a couple thousand dollars. (Of course, then you run into the copyright issues.) But without Adams' direct work on it, it may be "priceless" to a super-hardcore Adams fan, but it's worth the same as every other IIfx to everyone else. (I'm a huge Adams' fan, complete with autographed, leather-bound, gold-foil-edge copy of the Ultimate Hitchhiker's "Trilogy", but I still wouldn't pay very much for it.)
The fact that it was his wifes computer means it wasn't worth much. Still cool to have anyway.
wow....
Clean machine.
I'd pay $50 for the whole setup.

I asked the guy a question:
"I would like to purchase whatever it is you are smoking."
I want to see if he puts it on the page, ROFL.

adams also was teh first european to own a Macintosh. he ordered 4 128ks when they came out in 1984. so he is kinda important to (at least european) mac fans tooIf it had actually been Adams' primary writing computer, and contained his drafts, it would be easily worth a couple thousand dollars. Maybe not. Maybe he doesn't do drugs. Maybe he just sells them. I hear a lot of drug dealers don't actually use the stuff themselves. Cuts into the profits, if ya know what I mean. [ROFL ROFL
