UK 68KMLA Meetup
Zerohour and I would like to invite all UK members to a meetup at the Museum of Computing in Swindon on Saturday 17th May 2008.
If you follow the UK computer press, you may be aware that the museum has to find a new home shortly, so this may be a last chance to see the exhibits for a while. Zerohour is a volunteer there (and a member here), so we may be able to see some of the kit that is normally in the archives.
Unfortunately, the date is pretty fixed. The museum will have to move shortly afterwards, and the 17th is the last date that really suits the museum and me. The visit will be in the morning (ie early start) but I daresay that we can regroup afterwards for a natter elsewhere. Apologies if this date is in the middle of your exam preparations or similar, but if the day works, we'll look at another meetup at a friendlier time. Note that this is a social occasion, so don't bring along your latest hack beacuse we are all going to be engrossed by weirder, older stuff.

How many members are there in the proximity of Swindon? I'd have thought only a handful (assuming you have very big hands).

Swindon isn't convenient to me -- a two and a half hour drive normally, but possibly horribly more.
The suggestion about Swindon was simply because it is the home of a museum that is of interest to all UK vintage computer enthusiasts.

About 10 hours south of you.
I'm on the east outer edge of LA county close to the border of San Bernardino county.
The only person its probably convenient to is me as I live in Swindon
We also would like offer if anyone wants any particular machine (providing we have it) to make suggestions I am currently awaiting a list of the machines we have from one of our members.
We are more than happy to get the machines running if we can (not everything has been tested but most of it works) and we encourage a hands on approach. A tactile experience we do have some items behind glass but we can even take them out on request.
The museum want you to try the machines interact have fun with them use them in all their glory.
It is a wonderous opportunity to see machines and experience machines you may never have seen or used.
