So you want to upgrade your Powerbooks LC040 to full 040 or maybe a PPC, yes? You won't see to many 540 mother/daughter boards advertised out there on the interwebs, but you do see a lot of broken Powerbooks for sale for next to nothing.
As a case in point: I had a 520c that needed a few parts so I looked on ebay and found an auction for two Powerbook 540's (one with smashed screen + missing HD, the other looked dropped, and only power supply) and i got them for about $45 - I think the auction price was like $15 and $30 was just for postage! Anyway when they arrived I found that the one with the smashed screen was a PowerBook 500PPC, they both had 32MB RAM modules and lots of other goodies [
