Got this at the local pawn shop

Sempron 3000

40GB HD

256MB RAM (soon +1GB)

DVD combo drive

Came with a CRT and some perippherals. I don

t think it was a bad buy for $100.

Anyone have any Athlon XPs?

What kind of CPU socket?

I think it's a socket A (462)

No Athlon XP will work in that box. You need a faster Sempron or an Athlon64.

socket A is a processor socket that was used during the Athlon XP/Duron/Sempron. So yes, and Athlon XP Will work.

I had a socket 462 machine, and I started with a Duron, then a Sempron, and finally an Athlon 3200+ and it was a grand machine. I think you paid too much for it. Pawn shops are worthless for finding good deals. That machine can be had off of craigslist for maybe $60 tops

No;

Socket 462 (or Socket A) - newer AMD Athlon, Athlon XP, and Duron processors

Socket 754 - lower end AMD Athlon 64 with single-channel memory support

Socket 939 - AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Athlon FX with dual-channel memory support

Socket 940 - AMD Opteron and early AMD Athlon FX processors

I probably paid too much for it but oh well...

I have found some smokin' good deals at the pawn shop here though... Like a rare rotel remote that I made $50 profit off of.

I have a eMachines that uses a AthlonXP. So yes I do got a AthlonXP. :D
