It's mine, and it's home!!! Troubleshooting 30 posts Jun 28, 2008 — Jul 17, 2008
Yesterday, I scored a Desktop G3 and a 20th Anniversary Mac (should I upgrade this one to 9.0 or OS X or leave it as is)!!!

They're coming along with some ram for the iMac and the Beige G3 (tower). Both I have had since Thursday.

Now if I could only find a 333Mhz processor from another "tray loader" for the iMac.

EDIT: The TAM will be home on Monday by 10 A.M.

A TAM is a nice find!

Keep the TAM at OS 8.6 and you won't regret it.

How did you score a TAM? That just doesn't happen without a story!

Yea, pics and story or it didn't happen.

How the heck did you get a TAM????

Never mind the TAM being upgraded to OS X, I didn't realize that it shipped with 7.5 is it?

Oh yeah...

The kind man who offered it to me is a fellow Mac enthusiast (he's also the kind soul who gave me these).

He thinks its a weird machine and said he was waiting for the right guy to give it to, and he found him (me)! You guys are gonna have to wait till Monday (Wednesday at latest) for pictures of him/her (the TAM) and me.

No WAY did you score a TAM for FREE. Those things go for thousands on ebay.

Wow, that's pretty impressive.

Anyway, my personal recommendation for that TAM is 7.6.1, or BeOS. [:P] ]'> But it always seems like we each prefer something slightly different. BeOS R5 with all of the patches would make a great media player, and it's a very stable system. (without the patches, it gets a bit weird.)

Oh yeah, and if pics are going to be added, you need to crouch down next to it and try to look badass like guys tend to do next to their chrome rims. :D

Don't lie, all you car guys know you have at least one picture like that.

Whut?? I go away for a couple of days and people are finding iLamps out with the trash and being handed TAMs. Have we all died and gone to Mac heaven?

They Have... we apparently haven't reached it yet :p

Not so fast! Some people are indeed willing to give these away. Granted, it's not an everyday occurrence, but neither is it impossible. One of my TAMs was essentially free as well. Around here, in Sillycon Valley, there are some folks who do not attach much value to older computers.

So MacDan, whereabouts do you live?

Also do you have any noticeable patterns in your behaviour that would be noticed by others if it were to change?

And finally what sort of security setup do you have at your house? Never can be too safe ya know.

You've obviously photoshoped your head onto some real TAM owner's body. Stop the lies!
Haha, fool. I have no idea how to use Photoshop. You can ask anyone of my friends. I didn't even know what C++ was until two days ago. If you're ever in Southern California (and anywhere near La Puente) you are welcomed to stop by our little home and see the TAM for yourself. Good day sir.

I live in La Puente, California ( I see you're in California, also). I wonder if any of us Cali-based Classic Mac collectors and users can ever get together and have a chat or something to show off our gear.

Yes, I'm a nice person most of the time, but I can be a real @!%$ when it comes to guarding my belongings.

I have grown closer to my AK-74 (it's an airsoft (bb) gun, I kinda wish we had an AK-47 at this moment).

For real security we only have a crabby, lazy rabbit who won't even chase after you. (I want to hire a security team armed with AK-47's and a grenade or two).

Don't even think about it pal. }:)

I have to say that is true. (I've heard from sources). The kind man who offered it to me said that he fired it up only once and found nothing special about it, except for it being fancy.

The force is strong with this one...

Force (what force)? I feel scared. [Runs up to mother for comfort].

Hmmm, I seem to recall a recent poll...

"Is this guy (me, MacDan) a dork for not knowing where to look?...

I have no idea where to start looking for old Macs to add to my collection..."

Well, I guess you can teach us all now, Mr. Quick Study and NOT_A_DORK!

Ha Ha Ha. I recall that poll. I was feeling in a liberating sort of mood and I didn't know where to look except for the Trading Post section of the forum. Then a lot of folks gave me pointers and, whala, two weeks later I have a roomful of stuff (and a TAM).

I have been looking for a TAM for 8 years.

In all my ineffectual hunts, the best deal I encountered was 1,500 Euros -- which of course I did not have.

People have been giving me the occasional Mac stuff for free because they know I am a collector, a Mac evangelist and the like, but something like this never happened to me. I mean, I've received a Performa 630, an Apple IIGs (without anything else, though), a non-functioning 128K, but a TAM? In my dreams.

All the best, Dan! Although I can't hide a bit of envy :)

1500 Euros is a ton of Money. You have some pretty neat things, too. Like the 128K. I believe it's repairable.

Thanks a lot and all the best to you.

Whaaat?? Last night it was a Apple 300i SCSI CDROM drive..

Whoops. Bad cut and paste. Unfortunately I've deleted the original from my watch list. It was a 333MHz iMac CPU module for $6.95 plus shipping in the US.

Oh, that explains a lot of things.

Here are some more:

$9.99

$6.99 - that's the one I meant to post before.

$7.20 or Buy It Now $9.80

Cheapest ~50% speedup around. [:)] ]'>

If you're not on ebay maybe someone here can help you out. Heck. I'll do it.
