Can I fix an original Game Boy for the next RetroChallenge? Hardware 11 posts Jul 1, 2008 — Sep 9, 2008
Would this qualify as a entry? I mean, because a Game Boy does have a CPU and RAM.

Technically, I don't see why not, but then I'm not involved with the RetroChallenge. But personally I think it counts. Anyone?

Original Gameboy from like 1990? I'd say definately. :D

Actually the Retrochallenge is great time to fix stuff.

Yes, I would say so. The Retrochallenge is pretty informal and intended to be fun, the only real guideline is that projects should be carried out using something that is over 10 years old, which your Gameboy is by far!

Oh man, I forgot just how big those original GB's were..with the

washed out LED screen..sure changed the way games were

played..Myself, dug the GB pocket, or GB Colour..

A hack I'm thinking of, is to shoe horn the guts from a GB

Advance into GB Color..or original GB...I have enough of 'em

lying around..so I would give it a whirl...

LED screen? Original GB? What? I thought the first to have a lighted screen was the original GBA..

No, it was the Game Boy Advance SP.

TECHNICALLY, the first lit Game Boy was the Game Boy Light; but it was Japan-only. (It came out at about the same time as the Game Boy Pocket in the U.S.)

Yeah; I also knew that.

:p

There's a whooooole lot of Gameboy hacking going on out there if you know where to look. [8D]

Hmm, an interesting tidbit I found while opening a busted Game Boy (original) is that it has a 4mhz processor (or something like that).

:EDIT: It has a 4.194304mhz processor. I also see two 64kb SRAM chips on board (as much as a Mac 128k)! Need any pictures?
