Hi Folks, it has begun...

Unexpected my first Project is a great one!

Last week I got an originally boxed Macintosh 1984!

And I unboxed it :-)

I started the Replacing Apple //e Logic Board Project !

And some problems have to be solved...

I have made some more photos of my Macintosh 1984 and got some more informations about the Mac by the original owner.

I have compared my Apple //c prototype #2 with the later sold version - see the photos.

See a scan of the original signed paper used to embed the signatures of the developer team in the Mac 1984.

My Apple //e has now a DualROM Adapter and the keyboard has a new cable.

Do tell more, how did you get it, why did the person sell it, and i will be rude!--- just how much did you pay for that little gem?

I bought the Mac from its first owner, he is moving to a smaller house so he decided to give away his old Mac. It was listed at eBay Germany two weeks ago by a new seller (3) who started the auction at 1 Euro and only for pick up. I mailed the seller letting him know that the Mac is in danger to go out for a few bugs (he lived in a small village). I bed 100 Euro. He said its much more worth (he was right) I bed 200 - he accepted. In addition I got the complete "Inside Macintosh" books and the original boxed MacWrite & MacPaint which where sold originally with the Macintosh in 1984. All together for 270 Euro including shipping costs - the old owner will buy a new iPod for the sum ;-) no joke. [:D] ]'>

270 euro for a boxed with bits seems a good deal to me, especially as its only had one owner. So you being you are you going to crack it open and install a cd drive and an LCD screen?

No :-) not at this one...

But I need to repair the floppy drive - the disc only flips out when I use a paper clip. And yes - I also think it was a fair deal :-)

Odd. I'm sure all of my //c's have the same keyboard as the prototype. I assume your production model is a European one?

Also none of mine have the power and disk icons printed next to the LEDs.

Your webpage is a very interesting read. Just one thing about the IIc prototype - that prototype keyboard actually was used on production models, as it is the standard North American layout. I remember using Apple IIcs back in primary school that had the North American style keyboard, rather than the European layout that your production model IIc has.

thank you for the info - my Apple //c that i compared with the prototype is really an European version and the keyboard seems not to be a prototype - its the northern American layout. I correct that in the page.

Your site is wonderful. Of course I love the overall design and System 6/7 interface.

On the "Unboxing a Macintosh" page, you wrote:

I didn't know that -- I assumed that EVERY Macintosh 128K had the signatures on the inside. My unit has them too. I didn't know it was somewhat a rare thing. Cool. :)

An AppleInsider told me - it has not been proved by any apple officials :-)

Maybe a saga. Does someone have a Macintosh 1984 without the signatures?

I've never seen the signed paper before, that sure makes it easier to read.

The 4 signatures you picked are interesting. It's sort of fascinating to find out which mac developers mac fans honor/relate to/whatever.

It's kind of like those web polls that were popular several years ago... "You're a Daniel Kottke!"
