forgot password on LCII running 7.6

I can't get past opening screen without my password. How can I reinstall OS and do a clean install?

I want to try to use a startup disk to boot to but I don't know how to get the computer to see it first. Like hold down or etc.

Boot up from a CDROM.

What sort of password screen is it? I thought that only came in with Mac OS 9.

it doesn't have a cd-rom and it's like a welcome screen.

Then

(a) boot from a floppy, you would need a set of system 7 install disks.

( B) startup without extensions on, try starting up and holding shift+option while the OS is booting.

How are you intending doing a reinstall of the OS without some other media to boot from?

I was hoping by holding down a "key", I could boot to a disk that would sort of prompt me to do a clean install. Take out this disk and put in number 2. That type of thing. The guy who owns the system now has 7.5.3 OS on floppies.

It depends on the kind of password protection you have to work around. Some protections software is disabled easily just by holding down the shift key until you see the message "extensions disabled" on the welcome screen. Many "protection" software available for System 7.6 or earlier is not very secure and can be disabled without too much work. You might connect the harddisk to another Mac as a second drive and remove the protection manually. If you have a protection on disk driver level, like Harddisk Toolkit, again it depends on the version you use. Try to identify the kind of password protection and search the web a little for known issues.

For the set of installation floppies: switch off the computer, put the disk labeled "Install me first" into the disk drive, start the computer and follow the instructions. I preferred running 7.1 on a LCII.

depending on what kind of welcome screen you have you could try using the debug mode to kill the program and return to the finder. Try holding down the command key while pressing the triangle "power" key. I am not sure if you need to have macbugs installed. When the box appears, type "G" or "G FINDER" and it'll return you to the finder. At that point you can try to do a clean install.

Have you tried booting from the first install floppy? All 68k Macs that I know of try to boot from floppy first before harddisk.
