Macintosh SE Problems Hardware 4 posts Jul 21, 2008 — Jul 22, 2008
I wired up the Mac SE and I hoped all would go well. I flipped the power switch and it gave me the start up chime. That was it, though you could still hear the insides working. The screen was dark and I moved the brightness thing, but nothing. What is wrong with it?

Could be a dead PRAM battery. Leave it powered up like that for a couple of hours, then try very quickly switching it off then booting it again. Aim for under two seconds :D

Didn't work. Flicked off, then instantly back on.

Sounds like the monitor itself isn't working, eg the motherboard thinks it's doing it's thing.

That could be a number of things; dead components, leaky capacitors, dry solder connections, poor connectors.
