I found a 9600/350 today at ISU's surplus. I couldn't pass it up for $3, even though it has no RAM or hard drive.
I don't know if it works or not - we shall see.

I have some RAM that *should* work with the 9600. The 8500 uses the same type of RAM IIRC. Nice conquest!
Very good find, fastest CPU too.
Sweet!! I paid $$$ for one.
Nice. 9600's are great machines.
Here's hoping it works and serves you well.

I'm not talking to you anymore
^ lol!
I opened it up last night - no 350mhz 604e - it's a newertech G3 upgrade :-(
I really wanted that darn 604e!

Not quite. The 8500/9500 use FPM RAM only. The 8600/9600 use FPM or EDO. New EDO RAM is currently half the price of increasingly scarce new FPM 168-pin DRAM.I have some RAM that *should* work with the 9600. The 8500 uses the same type of RAM IIRC. Nice conquest!
Admirable conquest, nevertheless. And 604ev CPU or not, you have a Kansas MLB and six PCI slots.

I'll have to check on the EDO RAM.
I loaded 8.5 on a spare HD I had lying around - seems to work fine!

I have a couple of old Mac formatted HD's, dunno if they'll work on your computer though.
