Speaking from personal experience, arranging a sale or even a giveaway can be a lot of extra work, so I kind of understand why things still worth hundreds of dollars can be simply dumpstered--but I still don't approve of it either.
Nice "free" camera BTW! I think it will work with the CHDK firmware patch which gives you access to more advanced features, like raw file output and full manual control.
