Free boxed Canon Cat and printer!
WOO!
There was an ad on the local CL advertising this beautiful old computer, with original boxes, some disks, and a printer, all for free! I fired off an email and after a long and fairly slow conversation, I'm picking it up from the guy's parents' house Friday.
Can't wait to try it out - it's replacing the long-held spot of the seldom-used iMac on my desk, next to the phone line, where I'm going to try to get it to BBS with the internal modem.
Also been looking at FORTH, going to try some programs on it.

Those things are worth thousands

A very nice catch indeed! Photos pleaase.
I don't know how many people are going to pay thousands of Euros, Dollars or whatever for one, however.

Like I said, picking up Friday, but will upload photos then.
Mate of mine's been looking, the cheapest he's seen is 1000 USD... he's from New York.I don't know how many people are going to pay thousands of Euros, Dollars or whatever for one, however.

And rumour has it, when Canon was investing in NeXT, Jobs got Canon to kill the Cat project...Which pissed off Raskin...Jeff passed away about a yr or two ago...Jef Raskin not Bill![]()

Some years ago, Raskin along with some early Macintosh project pioneers, received from Apple, a MAC PLUS, noted as the millionth PLUS built.
From all the reading I have done about Mr.Raskin, that PLUS was used by him for many years...
Funny how Jobs secured much of his initial wealth, while Raskin ended up with crumbs...and Even away from Apple at NeXT, Jobs had to stick it to him..
It's here.
Will post pics tomorrow, but I can say this:
It came entirely in its original beat-up packaging, including styrofoam, with all manuals in perfect condition. The machine itself is extremely dirty on the outside but smells fine, no smoke smell, and works perfectly. It came with a Cat 180 daisy-wheel printer and 2 extra ribbons. This is working perfectly also, and prints beautiful crisp writing with boldface and underlining. Out of curiosity, I used the "Erase" function on a Mac 800k disk, and then recorded 'test test test' to it. Worked perfectly too.
Gonna try BBSing tomorrow.

Wow, what a great find!
Wow, what a great find!
Finally there are pictures!

Again, at some point in the distant future I'll upload some piccies of the printer and its results.
The system is very cool, especially disk operations. Each disk is 256k, and is a direct copy of all the memory in the computer. On boot, the Cat will load any disk in the drive into memory... the total time from boot to editing in this is maybe 15 seconds. I've used it for two school reports now.
I have tried BBSing, and it works, at a glorious 1200 baud.

No offense intended, but I have to admit I was skeptical until I saw the pics - WOW! Amazing conquest!
That's a beauty. Great find!
A real beauty indeed.
sorry. I did not mean to "pipe up." I just thought some else might be interested in buying mine. I withdraw my offer and will get off your board.

Anyway chris, cool find.

Cool. The machine the Mac was supposed to be until Steve jobs got too involved with the project.
Congratulations on an exquisite find, Chris.
