400K Floppy Drive

I gave up on capacitors for now. The Classic II board is probably ruined.

Now I am working on, what I believe is an original 128K (I can't tell if it's a 512K or not.)

The 400K drive was all seized up. I lubricated some of it and now it's moving, but there is this one little metal bit that refuses to slide up and down, which has something to do with keeping the disk in and the whole thing pressed down so it can read the disk.

Improvise? :p

Well, actually, if you could get some mechanism to hold the disk in place... Otherwise get a new drive...

I've never worked on a 400k drive but I have worked on others. Can you post a picture of the offending part?

Mike,

I too have a 400k drive that needed some work. It wouldn't eject or read disks. Here's an excellent article that helped me make the drive operational:

I lubricated it some more, and now it's working a lot better.
