9500 makes me hate my life

So I got my 9500 today, which i got from MacG4's end of summer sale. Before I even booted it, I opened the case up (not hard, really) and popped in my hard drive. Simple. Getting the case back on, however, left me incredibly upset. I spent over 2 hours trying to get everything to line up correctly, but:

I CANNOT GET THE CASE BACK ON!

Now I truly understand why people say that this is one of the WORST APPLE CASES EVER MADE! While very attractive on the outside, this case is pure evil on the inside. [

So yeah, if someone can help me get this case on, it would be incredibly appreciated.

There's a weekly support group, Tuesdays at 6 PM, for victims of the 9500 case. Let me know if you're interested.

Seriously though, you just have to fiddle with it until it goes on right

Or perhaps a Xannax specially formulated for 9500 owners...

I'll give it a go tomorrow. I wonder if I took it into an Apple Store, if they'd be able to help. Probably not, but it'd be interesting to know.

I'm sure the Geniuses could give it a try although Apple no longer supports that model.

I'm sure they would look at my Lombard the same way.

I got some weird looks when I was using my Pismo at the genius bar once waiting for a repair to process.

I think it had to do with the upside down apple.

Assuming that the metal case jacket is not warped or bent, you need only lower it over the chassis with about a 2" space between it and the backplate, and then slide the jacket rearwards as you guide its rear edge into the recess in the backplate. What kind of trouble are you having?

Most of the (undeserved) bad reputation of the 9500/8500/8100 derives from the need for almost complete demolition before replacement of DIMMs or the battery, rather than from difficulty in putting the case jacket back on.

Make sure you are on a firm surface like a table, lower the case a few inches forward of the rear panel and slide back once the case is fully lowered. I only use 2 of the six screws to bold the case on now otherwise it makes an even more epic task of fiddling inside.

It's weird. I slide the case on, and push it back. One side of the case seems to align just fine, but the other side will not line up on the sides.

It cut me, too.

Check the fan that folds up over the PCI slots is fully up, it should help support the CPU daughtercard. If not clicked into place it can stop the case closing.

If the fan is being a continuous pain then you can remove it and stick in a PCI slot fan or two, one under the CPU and another a couple of slots up from the bottom should do the trick.

Yeah, the Frigidaire models like that are often a pain. Plus, most of the ones I come across are brittle as all hell and the inner plastic frame bits disintegrate if I look at 'em. And, as you've noticed, they're blood thirsty. Not a good prize.

If any of you guys doubt that Gil Amelio did anything for Apple (and he actually did a lot), reflect on the fact that the 9600/8300/Gossamer case was his doing. He came across a prototype of it in Apple's tech lab that had been abandoned and pushed for it to replace the 800/840/8500/9500 case design.

Sounds like your 9500 caught something from my 9600.
