An interesting option in upgrading the original LC chassis is to make use of the second FDD door. In the beginning machines were available with two floppy disk drives and no harddisk drive. In the hdd equipped models the cutout for the leftmost drive remains, usually closed with a small bracket.

As it comes to the use of flash memory one could be tempted to invest some bucks and insert a SCSI to PCMCIA adapter in place of a second FDD or HDD, accessible from the LC's front. I keep one original LC case just for this non destructive modification.
