This card in an 8500?

This card in an 8500? OS 9 9 posts Oct 25, 2008 — Oct 27, 2008
Why not? It's PCI, isn't it?

Yes, although technically you need OS 9.2.2 or higher.

Cool, yea I just didn't know if it was compatible or not. These older macs have random incompatibilities.

I had a 7000 in my 8500. So why wouldn't the 9200 work?

I don't know why so many eBay sellers list their 9200 Mac Editions as 9200LEs. They're killing the potential sale price. The 9200LE was neutered trash and the 9200 Mac Edition isn't an LE.

Exactly what I was thinking...

The 9200LE is different enough from the 9200 that flashing an LE for Mac isn't possible. They're really quite different architecturally. And if it is possible, I've yet to see anybody do it.

The item pictured in the auction in question is a legit Mac Edition card. Same goes for a number of other auctions I've seen with *actual* pictures of a legit card listed as an LE.

I just get the impression that most eBay sellers don't know what they're talking about and one of them posting misinformation in an auction causes an avalanche of successive sellers doing the same.
