My 128K decided to Sad Mac

I decided to turn on my 128K and make sure she was still booting.

Instead I'm greeted with the sad mac.

Code "0 4 0 1 0 0"

Turning off and on doesn't seem to help.

Last time it booted up just fine. It sits on my desk in an air conditioned room. Nothing should have affected it.

4=Memory test--Mod3 test

Memory chip is bad.

WTF. That's so goddamn arbitrary.

Maybe your RAM is indeed bad, but that memory test is very crude, and not definitive.

Check the simple things first: Reseat any socketed components and connectors. Measure the supply voltages and verify that they are within spec, both on and off the logic board.

Perform a careful visual inspection of the traces on the logic board, particularly in the vicinity of any lines that connect to the chip identified in the RAM test.

LOL, like the octogenarian who ate well and exercised regularly his entire life then dropped dead one day. Nothing should have affected him either, except age.

Like dogs, we should really come up with a human lifespan in terms of Mac years.

This is why I prefer dealing with software rather than hardware - Hardware can be a bitch and stop working for no good reason. Annoying!

I'll take it to the office and dismantle it sometime in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it's something simple. This is a really nice 128K with no yellowing at all, no upgrades, etc.
