There is also the occasional "loose shutter" problem that causes all manner of grief. Do not -- repeat, do not -- grab the disk and pull any harder than very gently. If the disk's shutter has caught on the heads, you can easily destroy the drive in the act of pulling the disk out. Best to follow equill's advice to remove the drive for some maintenance.
