If the Mac is crashing at boot with the logic board inside the case and not when it's outside, check to make sure nothing is touching the board from below. For example, if there is metal in the case, make sure it isn't loose or bent and possibly coming in contact with the bottom of the logic board.

That's the only really good reason I can think of that it works outside the case and not inside.
