Last night, I tried tomlee's suggestion of mounting the disk images. Unfortunately, the Centris said that the files were corrupted, and so couldn't expand them. But guess what? I GOT THE SE TO BOOT FROM ITS HARD DRIVE!!! HOORAY!!! 
TheNixer, I'm afraid your System Tools disk is no more. None of my computers can read it. But, luckily, I had saved a copy of my improvised system disk on the Centris, and when I wrote it to a new floppy, the SE booted it. Once I ran Apple HD SC Setup, the hard drive was recognized! It wouldn't let me run the Installer, so I just copied the contents of my improvised system disk onto the hard disk and, (after getting a freeze-up when I ejected the floppy disk) it booted successfully from its own hard drive!
So the good news is that it works, and I've even installed Microsoft Word onto it, but the bad news is that TheNixer's System Tools disk is now unreadable for some reason. Also, the SE heats up really quickly and so I'll need to replace the fan.
But, despite the fan issue, I'm happy to report a functional SE!!!
