I find that snipping a length of lead off of a resistor works well for most of that kind of repair. You may find it difficult to get solder to stick to a paper clip because of the various coatings/platings used.

I think Radio Shack still carries resistors and the beautiful thing is that the 1/4 watt will have a thicker lead than the 1/8 watt variety, so there some matching of gauge if you're careful.
