Centris 610 won't boot...
Had my centris 610 re-capped a year ago since it became all voodoo... Since then it has worked flawlessly, until Friday night when my daughter turned it on and nothing... Monitor remains asleep but the hard drive spins up and the power led lights up. I've disconnected the SCSI devices (color onescanner, 1.2gb Apple HD, canon slide scanner) I've resat the ram, checked the pram battery, removed the dos card... Everything. Still nothing. We still use this machine quite a bit and have since my parents bought it new for me in 1993. Don't want to see it go. Anyone have any ideas?
Noticed another thing... I let the machine run after I checked the voltages and noticed the processor was warm when I came back... I know the 040's ran warm, but this guy is doing nothing. Also, the num, caps and scroll lock lights flash when initially powered on... So the keyboard is posting.
there is a cap that goo's up and rotts up legs/pads of a TI-VLSI I/C over right next to the PDS slot, witch is unique for the C/Q 610 MB.

I was the one that re-capped this thing over a year ago.
pretty sure it has tantalums.
I remember this 610 because i had to tear apart my PM6100 to test it.
And it worked like a top.
i remember he got it back though, and then he said that it was dead just as it is now.
i told him that it worked great here and to maybe check the voltages at the psu.
then i never herd anything from him.
so i am under the assumption that something he did got it to work. and has been working all this time until recently.
Maybe, I did not clean the legs of that VLSI good enough with a tooth brush and acetone?
So maybe try that? get a tooth brush and some acetone and be careful because those legs can bend over.
we don't need another ROLLERMANZ.......
but wet that whole area really good with the acetone, and lightly scrub, maybe carefully pat dry with some TP paper and then do it again.

I never did try with the floppy drive disconnected... That never occurred to me. Yes, uniserver, you recapped the board - and did a beautiful job I might add... I do electrical work for a living and I hate soldering. Nothing ever turns out right - but the board never worked. I got caught up in a massive job change, two deaths in the family and a ton of other crap so I never investigated further nor did I respond to you. Truly unprofessional and unacceptable on my part.
I really want to get this board going somehow and it just seems like it's something really dumb from keeping it going.
I did check the interupt and reset switches... Both are good. I will also double check the VLSI and make sure it's clean.
Does the board you have have the full 040? I assume that's the 25mhz quadra board?

I would like to have a crack and it, you can send PayPal to 360alaska @ gmail.com and you can take my board out when you get it and put yours and send it back, sound good? The board came from a centris I bought that was damaged in shipping, If I can fix your board I will be putting the bits into a custom plexiglass case...
