IIci with cache card

Found a guy on eBay selling two IIci's. Turns out he's based just up the road from where I work. He runs an eBay consignment store. Someone dropped these off and he didn't know anything about them other than that they powered up and had RAM & hard drives. I won one of them that came with a mouse, and the other is still for sale on eBay and comes with a keybd/mouse. I haven't plugged it in yet, but from what I can tell, it has 64mb RAM *and* the IIci cache accelerator card. w00t!

64MB is oddfor a IIci, it would have to be 4x16MB or 8 x 8mb 30 pin SIMMs, both of which are not that common. Unless you are running RAM doubler on 32MB (which is common 8 x 4MB 30 pin).

Which cache do you have? There is the common Apple 32K one, the hard to find Radius 64K one, and the super rare 128k one.

IIci's are nice systems, enjoy.

Every RAM slot is filled with what appears to be 8mb SIMMs. I've only done a quick visual check and will be testing it out this week since I had company at the house all weekend.

Finally got a closer look at this thing. I can't tell which version of cache card this thing has because the system won't even turn on. The seller assured me that it powered on normally. I've tried different outlets & power chords and it won't come on. Also, it looks like the SIMMs are 1mb, not 8. Not a problem, since I have some extra 30pin SIMMs lying around. So I guess I'm now looking for a IIci power supply!

Does the power supply click when you push in the power button in the back end of the case? Are the capacitors on the motherboards leaking (usualy you notice wet spots around them that attracts dust)?

Power supply click -- nope.

Leaking capacitors -- yep.

The photos he sent me weren't the sharpest I've ever seen -- but I've seen leaking transisitors before, and his photos didn't show any sign of it. Now that I've stuck my nose in there, I can definitely see the wet spots, even though there is virtually no dust inside the case. I imagine it's been sitting in a box somewhere for several years.

Put in some new caps and you'll likely have a like-new IIci.

Excellent. I did a little research on the leaking caps phenomenon and immediately checked my IIsi & IIfx. No signs of leakage in either one. I think I'll power them up this weekend just to be sure.

I had to redo my IIx, IIcx, IIci, and 840av. Oddly enough neither of my IIfx have neded redone yet.
