Well, on both 180s, right where the Screen Display cable meets the motherboard, the case has a slight bulge on the bottom.

No matter what I try to do, this stays.

Also, on a FYO note, the highest failure rate SCSI drive out of my powerbooks is the 120mb IBM. All of them are dead. The 80mb IBMs all work. I have not tested the 40mb Conners yet.

Good to hear the 80MB IBMs work well; I just ordered one.

I have a 40MB Conner in my 180c right now. Based on my experiences with 1990s Conner drives I'd say they would be reliable in the long term...95% of the Conners from 1991 I work with are still operating well today.

The Conner 40MB in the PowerBooks takes a little while to spin up but is otherwise a good drive. It's no speed demon but sometimes you need a Volvo 240 station wagon: nothing fancy, nothing fast, extremely dependable.
