As the others have stated Alkaline, NiMH and Nicad batteries are mostly harmless, unless your handling large amounts of juice over long periods of time, scrub down good with hot water and soap, maybe use a brush

Lithium batteries are worse, cause the lithium has a better chance of soaking into your skin

as far as gloves you could use latex and a anti static strap, but they are not going to last long with all the sharp metal on a board. I would not worry about it, but I have 20 years of electronics experience and have been burned shocked stabbed and gooped countless times, and Ive turned out fine
