PowerBook 5XX replication or redesign?
Hi! I've been thinking. The only real way to make sure we still have powerbook 5XX machines that aren't in a million pieces for any meaningful amount of time is to make a new enclosure for them. So, here is my question. For the moment, ignoring the logistics what would be better? Exactly copying the original design [hinges!!!] or making a new one, and what would you guys recommend? I've oft thought about designing one I could produce out of acrylic...

What you really want is an old, but undeveloped design.
Well, at least that's what I want, what I really, really want … to make out of the spare parts I have from a plastics-challenged 540c.

One word: tablet. Either with the Wacom hack or with the KB inline with the screen, like the prototype in beachycove's link.
You are going to hate me, but I could care less about it being a tablet. I would rather have a functioning laptop. Something with hinges that are made of less fail. But we all have dreams, dont we?

Naw, no hating here. It's just my personal fetish.
If you can design hinges with less fail in them, by all means go ahead :beige:
