Mac OS 9.2.1 should have all the required drivers/extensions needed to make sound work on that QS 2001. Have you checked to make sure that the sound wasn't muted? If that checks out okay, then I would try reinstalling OS 9.2.1. Chances are. something may have gotten fouled up during the installation process.
Also, under 9.2.1, check and see if there are any software updates. To do this, go into the Apple Menu (top left corner) > Control Panels > Software Update. Initiate a search for any updates and download them all. Apple did release a handful of Power Mac G4 Firmware Updates and I think one of them had a fix regarding sound (it's all kinda fuzzy for me at the moment; maybe someone here can confirm this). Follow the instructions to install the Firmware Update(s) and you'll be in business.

Give it a try and let the troops know of the progress.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I should have mentioned that I have a Sonnet Encore 1.8GHZ upgrade installed. I don't have the original CPU

I have tried reinstalling the the OS as suggested but without luck. I think that the Sonnet CPU/Firmware may be screwing with the OS 9 installer.

Does anybody know if the Powermac will run with the Sonnet CPU installed with no Sonnet firmware applied?

Thanks
