I think it would be best to just buy an airport card for your iMac. I have a relative who installed an airport card after her Ethernet was destroyed from lightning, and it worked just fine. I'm not sure about the web browser though. IE 5 and Safari 1 are out dated, but you could try Opera 8. Opera 9 only supports Panther and above.
