" There are rumors that 10.2.9 will be released in mid-2009 to address several bugs and vulnerabilities that remain in version 10.2.8."
http://lowendmac.com/osx/jaguar-10.2/index.html
Has anyone else heard anything about this? Why would they do an update to a version of OS X that only runs on PPC machines, most of which either are no longer in use or have been upgraded to a higher version?

That's super weird. I wonder if it's not really some kind of automatic year insert, such as "10.2.9 will be released in mid-[CURRENT_YEAR] to address several bugs", but that would be even more puzzling.
Definitely odd, and it seems very unlike Apple to do this for such an old version of OS X. :?:
Yeah, that strikes me as very un-Apple-like. Since OS X first came out, they have only ever released ONE update after the next major release came out (10.4.11,) and that was less than a month after 10.5's release. 10.2.8 and 10.3.9 each came out less than two weeks before the next major release; but no updates after.
Once a newer version is out, point-releases for the previous versions stop. Only individual security updates continue; and even those stop once the next major version comes out. (For example, security updates for Tiger will almost certainly cease when Snow Leopard is released.)
What's odd is that the article makes the claim; but I have never seen any such rumors. Not on LEM, not on MacRumors.

Wow not true.
I think it's just a typo. I'm guessing the author meant to write "mid-2004" but accidentally wrote "mid-2009" because he was thinking about "10.2.9" from earlier in the sentence.
This isn't even from Apple or apple.com. No way.
They should at least allow Safari 2 or something.
I'd say its just a typo...lets face it, hardly anyone uses Jaguar anymore, not to mention that all the machines that can run Jaguar are now on Apple's Vintage and Obsolete hardware list. The only reason they'd release a 10.2.9, would be if they were legally required to for some reason.
I am using jaguar. On one of my Clamshells
The 10.2.9 in 2009 rumor first appeared as a fake information in Wikipedia in an already reverted edit:

Wanna hear about a strange dream I had last night? This is great: I dreamt that I was at the reference section of a library at some university. Anyway, I had found a shelf with a whole bunch of Apple manuals covering all sorts of stuff such as installation of OS X, other apps, and even older Mac software. It was stuff that no one would bother making a manual for, but in my dream, they had manuals for everything. They weren't the usual-sized manuals, but rather were 8.5x11" and spiral bound with clear-plastic covers. In my dream, I was flipping through these manuals on the shelf, and guess what? One of them was a "Mac OS 10.2.9 Installation Manual."
I had read this topic that same day.

Really?! Awesome! I had a dream that my Mac Classic 2 started working, but then when I went to turn it on in real life, I kicked my self.Wanna hear about a strange dream I had last night? It was just a dream....I have then when I go places, whenever my sister comes, my mom INSISTS that she drives. Can't stress enough had scary it is. It has nothing to do with the sex of who drives, it's what she was born with physically.I hate the ones even more when I dream about getting a nice new car...and I wake up and I'm all happy about being able to go for a drive in my new car and all....and then I realise.....
