I have a Quadra 700 here that constantly gets bus errors at startup, right before it would load extensions. Often though, this does not happen. The ratio is about 50/50 if I had to estimate. Once, I even got a Sad Mac that translated to a bus error. Bus errors mean trying to access memory that does not exist. What would cause this?
I remember I got that a lot with my Performa 578. I washed the motherboard, and it went away. Could be cap related, although there are other possibilities.
So this could possibly indicate that the Quadra has a finite life, is mortal, and will die from dead leaked capacitors someday (unless they are replaced)?
Try installing a fresh copy of the system first. I've found bus errors and address errors to occur frequently when software is corrupt (system or otherwise).
I will try that.
Also, whether it is relevant or not, the onboard ethernet on it is dead.
