G4 won't boot from optical drive

G4 won't boot from optical drive Software 3 posts Oct 6, 2009 — Oct 6, 2009
I installed NetBSD on my MP Gig-E G4, but now want to load Linux. So I burned YDL to a DVD and tried to boot it by holding "c" during startup. It completely ignores this and just keeps booting NetBSD from the hard drive. Do I need to change some OF settings or something?

what did you use to burn the DVD? and did you make sure that it was set to burn a bootable DVD?

I downloaded the Yellow Dog 6.2 DVD ISO, which is supposed to be bootable, according to the instructions given on their site. I mounted it in NetBSD as cd9660 (or whatever) and that worked, so it's readable. I used hdiutil from the OS X command line to burn it, as using Disk Utility gave some error that I don't recall right now. (BTW, I have DU 11.1, I think, but evidently the newest is 11.5...is this something I can download and update of from Apple?)
