You need to download and install the Asante driver, also do you have the power supply to the brick? Most people don't notice it needs one.
I have the driver.

There is no place on my model to plug in an AC adapter.  There is nothing but the SCSI port, the RJ45 jack and a BNC plug (for an alternate Ethernet connector).  (I did say it was the "Desktop EN-SC" model; apparently the other models in the product line do have AC adapters.)

The power LED remains on while the Mac is operational, and the "LI" (link?) light blinks at a fixed rate.  Occasionally I've gotten TX and RX to blink as well.  The port does not show up on the router and no IP is being found but I think the brick is.
