I had to read that a second time. I thought you had missed the '475' on the end of LC. I did not know they even made that upgrade. I wish we had that back when our family had an LC.

I just got back and it's even cooler than I thought. I had trouble keeping my composure when I saw it, and I felt a little guilty walking out of the house with it. $10!!!! I'm still giddy over it. :lol:

The LC is in its own box, complete with all software, manuals, original cords, keyboard, mouse, and styrofoam inserts. The high res monitor is new (check that, NEW, he only opened the box so he could take a picture of it.) He forgot to mention that the Apple 600e CD-ROM is new as well.

I also got two boxes of software (pictured at top) full of original software including (and this is so awesome) the original Dark Castle!!! The Corona box is filled with all the manuals for the software.

Oh man, dunno. I have a Color Classic that I did my 640x480 mod on, I could stick my other upgrade card in there. I'm at work so my mind is racing over possibilities when I get home. I got home relatively late yesterday so I didn't have much time to do anything except take a few pictures and rummage through the boxes. Coming in from San Francisco on I-80 was a nightmare. Not only did a Giants game just let out, but 3 of the 5 lanes on the Bay Bridge were closed due to some moron who can't drive. Took me about 5 hours to get home in what should have just been an hour and a half.

I think I'm going to hold onto everything. The computer could be worth $500 now, but could be $5000 in a few years when the economy picks up. Plus, ironically, I've never owned a new Mac. So to have an LC in its box and everything is doubly cool for me.

If I can find one more vintage Mac, I'm gonna force my friends into a Bolo LAN party. :rambo:

Wow! I'm always amazed when people keep their things so nicely. But it's so wonderful when they do, isn't it? Great haul!

I sure wish I'd bought an LC system back when I bought my first home rig in '91. Got an NEC x386 instead. Proprietary everything - very expensive to do stuff to. And a whopping 40mb hard drive and 8mb of ram! Man. I feel old.

Don't be. The first computer I remember growing up on was an IBM XT Which was only a few years old. That machine was so slow, it couldn't even play the games that came out just 2 years later. My dad had it sitting down in his basement.

Oh, and a few years after that, my dad got an Apple ][e and had a 20MB SCSI HDD with it, and had a Laser printer(!) for it. That machine rocked. We had Visicalc and AppleWorks as well as 4 floppy drives (2x Dual-Floppies labels 1,2 3,4 and stacked up) Sadly, my dad didn't splurge for the color screen. and since we had a black and white tv at the time, I didn't see any color screens in the house until the Performa 450 my mom got new was bought. After that, we traded in the color screen (I.e. threw out since the tuner went out) and got a brand-new 17" Color TV. A few years later (1997) We got a bose SRS 5.1 system and a 32" Sony Trinitron Color TV with Component/S-Video/Composite/Cable and then got cable internet folllowing that in 1999 and a new iMac blueberry (Went for the 333Mhz Model )

Fond memories were on the Performa 450. playing games. even once dialed into the local library, chatted with people and also checked out a book (One of those "How Things Work" books) Man, those were rock'n times. I wish I could go back to that era. Of course, with cable-model speeds

Oh, I'd be happy to make images of the software. I have to do that again anyway because at one point I had made images of most of my vintage software, then I copied all my images to my OS X machine, which promptly deleted the resource forks. Now the images will only mount under OS X, which is useless to me.

This time I'm gonna binhex them on my classic Mac before archiving. I'll set them up on an FTP. Since they're all abandonware, it should be perfectly legal for you all to snag copies. This will take me a few days.

I know a web host you could host them on with ftp access. It is called Zymic and it is free (though a bit slow).

Please note that I am not affiliated with Zymic in any way, I just wished to share my opinion because I've used it before.

Yep, I remember being excited when I found another PhoneNet connector because it meant that I could play Bolo on three machines instead of only 2 previously!

They weren't copy-protected so people could make legal backup copies.

They're "copy protected" in the sense that you can't make additional copies outside of a personal backup. Since the software isn't sold anymore, it's perfectly legal to extend copies in addition to any personal backup, which would normally violate copyright.

Most of the time they will, but not always. Some programs are written specifically in mind for that particular era of Macintosh, and the program may call on apart of the OS and/or microprocessor that isn't present in a PPC machine running a newer OS. AfterDark 2.0, for example, won't run on anything except System 6 or older.

Also, some games are written to go as fast as the computer can push it. Pirates! Gold is not playable on any PowerPC machine except maybe the 601 simply because it's too fast. The game really was designed for 040 speed machines or slower.

All I can suggest is to give it a try.

In other news, I guess the CRT was just too old. It stopped working, but not before the picture went wonky. Shaking the display would make it work again, so that leads me to believe it's a bad solder connection. My problem is that I don't have a clue where to start looking in order to fix it. I think it got damaged in transit.

Oh well. At least I have the boxes and accelerator cards. I'm gonna keep my eye out for another monitor and an LC motherboard. I really wanna get these working.

It's a good idea to check the caps first and see if the motherboard's repairable in it's current state.
