I have one of the early "unbitten" bags, too. There must have been a run of at least a couple hundred, because my Apple][ is a late '77 rev. 2 motherboard with color killer and 6-color hires. We all bought bags because it was the only item in the Apple catalog under $100!

The Apple is right-side up when the owner unzips the bag, but upside down for the rest of the world when carrying. Same as PowerBooks' logos were right-side up for the owner when he opened the lid and upside down to the rest of the world until the G4s. With the metal 'books, the emphasis shifted from the owner to showing the hoi polloi what you have.
