There are many different adaptors out there, and nearly every one has its own completely different way of setting the dip switches.
Just start with all of them in the 'off' position, start up the system, power off if no signal; turn switch 1 on, start up, power off if no signal; turn switch 2 on... Follow a binary progression, eventually you'll find a good setting.
Yes, it's a nightmare. I spent a couple hours mapping out all the settings one of my adaptors has. What you really want is a switch-less 'multisync' adaptor.
