My original post was a bit confusing because of the talk of two machines. It is possible that the charge board is flaky, but the board (and entire machine) in question is the same one that charges another battery just fine and the same one that had been unable to recognize the dud battery for over a year. Then all of a sudden, "lightning strikes."
