Woo Hoo! Gonna fix my Wallstreet at last. :)
I have a Wallstreet II with a burned out LCD backlight bulb. Wegener sells the bulbs but they are $70 for the bulbs alone and $229 installed!
I found a complete 14.1" LCD with top half of case for a Wallstreet on ebay for $20 AND free shipping. 8-o
So now I get my Wallstreet fixed for cheap!

Hey, nice!
I wish I liked Wegener more, though. When I had to fix my 1400c's screen many moons ago, they sold me one, but neglected to tell me that one of the screen lines was funky, which I didn't discover until at the END of that arduous repair. They never did reply to my E-mail, so I'm still using the screen and it still works, but I'm still very sore at them. >

Cool! I keep a few 14" and 13" LCD Wallstreet panels around incase one of mine bites the dust. If the 12" DS screen dies I don't think I will worry about it.
Replacing just the backlight would probably be a pain. One of my Thinkpads is red for a second when I turn it on, could last years or die tomorrow (like one of my junker thinkpads, was red for 5 seconds when I first got it, never worked again after the first boot).

ClassicHasClass: that's very poor customer service if that's what happened to you. I can see why you would still be sore. More than that, it could be a breach of trading laws (IANAL)
I've had happy endings in all the dealings I had with Wegener Media back in the day! Looks like maybe a PCI VidCard or two from them would be welcome additions to my collection. ] ]'>More than likely they didn't know about it beforehand, their address is listed, try sending them a polite registered letter, clearly documenting, the sale, your problem, their lack of response to your emails, and ask them to rectify the matter. They never did reply to my E-mail, so I'm still using the screen and it still works, but I'm still very sore at them. >![]()
You might be very surprised at the results, just don't let your sore attitude affect your attempt, complaining won't get you very far, but a polite registered/receipt requested letter usually opens eyes! [
