Have a newly acquired SE/30 which I'd like to reload an operating system on. I'm admittedly not familiar with the pros and cons of different operating system versions or what other programs I should load to max it's performance. For now, it would be set up to play games such as Glider, and eventually getting it online would be fantastic. I have some modems, an external Apple hard drive and an Apple CD drive all from the same era, but I don't know what's compatible or where to begin that installation adventure. I'd also like to install Word after I come across a printer.

So which version operating system should I install, and what other things (hardware and / or software) should I have on it to insure good performance? Being a novice and having scoured this board and other online resources, when all's said and done it's very confusing to choose or know what's ideal.
