Thanks, downloading SystemRescueCD PPC now in hopes, but I already have iPartition which has probably achieved all I can do in that direction.

My partitionng is already done, it's just that OS 9 is wanting to initialise the hard drive before it will mount, probably because iPartition boots to a version of OS X which OS 9 does not understand. In initialising I have to erase and format the whole disc, hence my problem with loss of my Tiger installation.

Thanks for trying, looks like I may have to start again then restore my backups.
