It screams of power supply issues. You have no way to say the PSU is in good condition until you are positive the voltage rails are good under load and there is no excessive current ripple. If you have not given it a recap, do that now. Old caps might look fine but after nearly 30 years they usually need unavoidable replacement. My II+ was the same way. Same with my ProFile.
